Figures - Dianne Heesom-Green

Before one can abstract the human figure, one has to understand it.

These small but monumental figures are studies; either of anatomy, gesture and movement or suitability of the clay type.

Each piece becomes a beloved character that sometimes translates into a bigger sculpture or exists as it is.

To create a statement in sculpture more work is done in the exploration of a theme than in the completion of the final piece. Writing, talking, drawing and making clay maquettes are all part of the process.

Often themes are explored and then abandoned. However, the flavors linger.

In Man with a Box, the mask theme appears. What is he keeping safe?
